Our GTS Post-processing team located in Hagenbach – Germany is looking for a VIE as GTS Thermoplastics and Welding engineer.

Global Technology and Standard (GTS) have the following missions and objectives :

  • Define standards and development guidelines of FIS technology and product solutions
  • Ensure their implementation in programs and plants and support engineering program team
  • Develop and coordinate a global network of “hands-on” people to ensure knowledge building and transfer within Faurecia and customers

One of the biggest concerns with welding thermoplastic materials by ultrasonic process is the overheating of the ultrasonic welding horn (Sonotrode) which limits the total welding time.

This is the key factor in term of cycle time of robot application like robot cells ALTA cells and XYZ welding equipment.

The VIE assigned will have to investigate in a deep assessment of different solution for Sonotrode cooling in the impact of different materials used to build the Sonotrode and the influence in term of lifetime cost process robustness.

The main goal of this project is to find a robust and cost effective solution to minimize the cycle time on a robot welding application.

Possible concepts to be developed :

Cooling concepts for Sonotrode :

  • Heat pipe concept
  • Integrated vortex
  • External liquid cooling
  • Internal air cooling
  • External cooling

Material used for Sonotrode

Influence of using different

  • Generator
  • Power

  • Process regulation
  • Amplitude regulation

According to those concepts, the task is to follow and validate those different methodic and defined them as core concept including guidelines and standards.

The length of the VIE is 12 months.
