Our Research and Innovation department is looking for and Innovation Project Engineer - Products & Function based in Auburn Hills, MI and reporting to the Innovation Manager - NAO. 


The Innovation Project Leader (IPL) is responsible for developing new technologies to meet the needs of our global automotive customers.  Using the Faurecia Innovation Process, the IPL leads a cross functional team of engineers, program buyers, supplier and strategic partners, etc. to develop a project from Project Proposal (M0) through Project Completion (M4).
Once a project has achieved Market Readiness, the IPL will serve as the primary advocate within the organization and externally to promote their innovation topic.  The goal then becomes delivering the market ready innovation to CBU Program Teams and/or Concept Engineering to be used in upcoming customer projects.
  • Develop/Manage new technology projects through the Faurecia Innovation Process
  • Establish and gain approval for Project Budgets
  • Monitor and forecast expenses versus approved budget
  • Protect intellectual property through patented solutions
  • Seek out and support strategic partnerships (where appropriate)
  • Network with global Faurecia R&I and Technology & Standards Engineering teams
  • Provide Concept Engineering department with market ready technologies that can be offered to the customer
  • Even after market readiness, IPL will maintain expert status in a project and lead/support problem resolution during product development and production phases of programs
  • Support purchasing as technical expert. Collaborate with the program buyer regarding supplier capabilities, especially in New Value Spaces.
  • Support customer presentations to answer technical questions
  • Maintain knowledge of the leading edge technology in their field of competency.
  • Benchmarking, External Landscaping and Trend Analysis.
  • Participate in supplier partnerships / development agreements to protect and solidify technology collaboration as appropriate


The ideal candidate will have/be:

Product and Function IPL Candidate Knowledge / Skills (preferred but not limited to):
  • Mechatronics experience is highly desired
  • Human Machine Interface (microsystems, embedded electronics, system Integration)
  • Infotainment systems (package, systems interface)
  • Interior kinematics and mechanisms (package, electrical systems interface)
  • Lighting and optics
  • Knowledge of assembly methods, tooling, and equipment
  • Technical report writing skills for design guidelines, trial reports, and MS PowerPoint presentations
  • Excellent presentation skills for FIS senior management, customers, and technical forums
  • Experience in Design of Experiments and Advanced Problem Solving Methodology preferred
  • Commitment to the highest ethical standards and willingness to adhere to Faurecia’s Code of Ethics and Code of Management.
Education / Experience:
  •  Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent discipline
  • Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science preferred
  • Master of Science degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in industry or research
  • Automotive interiors experience is a plus
