Automation Engineer

 

The Automation Engineer is responsible for the setup and control of optimum weld settings in both the prototype and production process.  The Automation Engineer will provide technical expertise to the Plant Production Team while developing and maintaining Welding Guidelines and Standards for areas of responsibility.  The Automation Engineer will lead advanced engineering workshops, hoshins, and/or continuous improvement activities to develop improved processes with the aim of reducing operating costs and improving quality.  The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited University and project management experience in the automotive industry.

 

 

Objectives

 

  • Plan, coordinate and execute Continuous Improvement activities and Hoshin/Kaizen events to increase production capabilities of welding cells by coaching assigned project team members in effective problem-solving and project completion.
  • Ability to accurately collect, communicate, and analyze data of a production process and proactively recommend resolutions to potential issues.
  • Works with Engineering Manager to plan, schedule and direct the installation, modification and continued integrity of new or revised equipment, processes, specifications and facilities.
  • Directly assists manufacturing supervisors to troubleshoot issues effecting their ability to reach production expectations in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Works with quality and safety teams to build safeguards (poke yoke, ergonomics) into the production system eliminating defects and operator injuries.

Requirements

·         Ability to set up and troubleshoot robots in a production environment

·         Ability to identify and root cause technical and product defects in a laser welding process

·         Experience in GMAW and/or Resistance welding

·         Experience with ABB and Trumpf is desired

·         Proficient in GD&T/ Print /Reading

·         Experience in Tooling setup/troubleshooting

·         Advanced programming of Siemens PLC is
