Our Interiors Division is looking for a Research and Innovation Intern for its Technical Center at Auburn Hills, Michigan.
The main missions of the role are to:

  • Support R&I engineers with project development by giving ideas and discussing solutions
  • Provides preliminary research for R&I engineers. 
  • Research new technologies/processes that can potentially be applied to automotive interiors (IP, DP, CC)
  • Orders parts or components specified by an R&I engineer or many times will be required to identify and order the appropriate parts/components to deliver technical solutions based on target requirements and goals.  Purchasing and shipping products done by creating RFQs/work orders.
  • Conduct testing on products/equipment using electrical engineering background
  • Create technical reports/presentations for committee , customer, and group meetings/reviews
  • Aids R&I engineers in the preparation and creation of documents throughout project development and for Innovation Process milestone gates (M0-M4).
  • Independently solve problems and report findings
  • Supports R&I engineers at meetings.
  • Other duties and special projects, as assigned by manager(s)
  • Travels to/Researches Auto Shows or Dealerships to benchmark current and future innovations.
  • Travels to other facilities to transport parts/documents.

The ideal candidate will have/be:


§  Pursuing a degree/background in : mechatronics/robotics/electrical/electronic/optical engineering

§  Human Machine Interface experience a plus (microsystems, embedded electronics, system Integration)

§  Infotainment systems experience a plus (package, systems interface)

§  Interior kinematics and mechanisms experience a plus (package, electrical systems interface)

§  Lighting and optics background a plus

§  Laboratory and testing experience (e.g. DOEs, data collection, technical/trial report creation, writing guidelines, etc.)

§  Electrical schematic creation

§  Hands on/Prototyping experience (e.g. soldering, 3D printing, …)

§   Programming experience (e.g. C/C++, …)

  • Ability to work in a team and independently Knowledge of basic engineering principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of basic research practices (Patents, M0 to M4 Documentation).
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
