Our Clean mobility  division is looking for a Tooling Designer for its Technical Center at Columbus, IN.
He/she creates the design of the tooling necessary for production of exhaust systems
based on the information provided by the project team, the generic specifications (design rules) and the catalog of standard tooling modules, the Tooling Designer will:
  • Define the concept of tooling (isostatism, positioning, tool change ..)
  • Prepare sketches to assess the feasibility throughout tooling operations (tools and processes)
  • Interface with the Product Process Simulation Specialist (process/tooling)
  • Create 3D designs using Solidworks
  • Coordinate with external design resources (outsourcing of part of the design)
  • Conduct design reviews with tooling coordinator and PML to receive approval for design
  • Complete 2D drawings and/or manage their outsourcing to BTC or other external resources
  • Manage changes for Product/Process by changing the tooling definitions
  • Act as support for tool manufacturing when changes or problems happen with the design during manufacturing phase (internal or external)

    The Tooling Designer will also be the responsible to:
  •  Provide support for program teams and Tooling Coordinator in consultation/launch phase
  • Help with definition and improvement of standards (working standards and tooling design standards)
  • To implement lessons learned into designs standards validated during tooling development, launches and production life of tooling


The ideal candidate will have/be:
  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent of 5 years’ experience with tooling/equipment design
  • Skilled with SolidWorks for large assembly design
  • Experience in tooling (Design, Maintenance, Development, Launch)
  • Able to communication in English
  • Ability to apply GD&T during print creation
  • Desired Knowledge of the following businesses; MIG welding, bending, Canning, Muffler, Gauging, and tube forming
  • Knowledge of Automotive production environment is a plus
