Jean Fran├žois LEDUC

With 20 years of experience in audit, Jean-Fran├žois has had the opportunity to see much of the world. In positions with major accounting firms, the automotive industry and as the CFO of a small retail group, he has worked in 20 different countries, including three expatriate postings in Poland and in the U.S. In May 2016, he joined Faurecia as Internal Audit Director.

“In coming to Faurecia, which I knew from my prior jobs in the industry, I joined a fast-growing company that offers lots of opportunity to move to other positions. My main focus is on plant audits, which is very operational. Internal Audit is a good position to start in as it provides a good overview of the Group and interaction with a lot of different plants and divisions.

I like working in the automotive industry. It’s very challenging and requires precise monitoring and analysis. At the same time, you have to maintain an overall view. It’s one of the best schools in the industrial world for learning auditing.

To succeed in this field, you need to have good finance fundamentals, of course, but familiarity with the automotive world is a big plus. An international mindset is also important. While the automotive industry is highly global and many industrial processes are similar, the people and cultures with whom you interact are very different. I spend 60% of my time on travel, covering an area that includes Western European countries, as well as Morocco and Tunisia, Romania, the UK and Russia.

My team has a good combination of expertise in auditing methodology and knowledge of Faurecia’s culture and procedures. One of our key focus areas is obtaining certification from the Institute of Internal Auditors. Our role is about more than policing; it’s truly being a business partner. Our audits create awareness about what’s working well and areas that need to be improved to drive better performance. In the end, it’s all about creating value for the company.”
