Division Metal Joining and Brazing Expert Engineer

Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies, USA, LLC seeks a Division Metal Joining and Brazing Expert Engineer in Columbus, Indiana, to develop and distribute know-how on brazing and metal joining processes for stainless steel and composite hot- and cold-end emissions control systems, fuel cells, and containment components throughout North American business unit. National and international travel 10%. Duties: design, develop, and distribute metal joining and brazing process standards for composite and stainless steel-based cold- and hot-end emissions control systems, fuel cells, and fuel containment components; evaluate technical information on current brazing and metal joining technologies to develop global database and design guidelines for powertrain components; develop and present reports on brazing and metal joining technologies, and create and deliver training materials on these technologies; develop methodologies for the evaluation of customer technical requirements, lead design processes for cold- and hot-end emissions control systems, fuel cells, and fuel containment component applications, and guide the development of simulation methods and tools to assess powertrain system performance; monitor market trends in metal joining, brazing, and additive manufacturing technologies to anticipate customer needs and contribute to innovation roadmap; provide physical validation guidance (on validation tests, required components, and validation procedures) for stainless steel and additive manufacturing components and assemblies; design and develop additive manufacturing technologies for use in induction heating, brazing and metal joining applications for powertrain components; perform and analyze SolidWorks simulations of airflow, heat transfer, and mechanical stress deformations for mufflers, induction heating coils, and welding fixtures; define Key Product Characteristics and Key Process Parameters for metal joining and brazing technologies for hot- and cold-end emissions control systems, fuel cells, and fuel containment components; lead product design teams on the industrialization of brazing and metal joining standards for the design and manufacture of stainless steel and composite fuel containment components, and hot- and cold-end emissions control systems; develop a metal joining and brazing network for North American operations, and lead monthly meetings and design reviews with the selected vendors; participate in program team Lessons Learned activities and distribute throughout the North American business unit.

Minimum education required: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or foreign equivalent degree. Minimum experience required: 3 years’ experience in a chief engineering, lead engineering, or expert engineering position working with metal joining for powertrain components. Special skills required: Must have one year’ work experience in each of the following: design of emissions control systems joints for manufacture using brazing, welding, and mechanically-locking production processes; definition of process parameters for gas metal arc welding and induction brazing of thin gauge stainless steel used in the manufacture of powertrain components; design of induction heating coils using additive manufacturing to optimize electro-magnetic field and heat distribution efficiencies of powertrain component joints; evaluation of structural deformation of emissions control system components using pressure distribution analysis; training on metal joining and brazing techniques for production processes and product validation of emissions control systems; analysis of SolidWorks simulations of airflow, heat transfer, and mechanical stress deformations for mufflers, induction heating coils, and welding fixtures; evaluation of fluid dynamics analysis results, simulation parameters, and validation processes of exhaust emissions to guide development of brazing and metal joining technologies for product design with reduced emissions.
