Innovation Program Lead Engineer

Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies, USA, LLC seeks Innovation Program Lead Engineer in Columbus, Indiana. The position is responsible for engineering, quality and timing of complex, multi-million-dollar, multi-plant light vehicle emissions control programs, and is the principal technical liaison between applications engineering and production. National and international travel to North American production plants 10%. Duties: develop innovation products and processes considering manufacturability, durability, function and cost, as well as powertrain performance for vehicle emissions reduction; use experimental methods (Design of Experiments, modal analysis, subjective evaluations, back-pressure measurements, tailpipe and interior noise measurements, and rattle analysis) to evaluate existing component technologies, and formulate next generation emissions control technologies for patent applications; review engineering specifications of published patents to develop and submit acoustic- and exhaust-related patent applications; analyze NVH testing data (tailpipe and interior noise measurements, pass-by, back-pressure measurements, subjective evaluations, modal analysis, and system resonance), and GT-POWER engine simulation data of internal combustion engines; use signal processing to coordinate structural modal testing and analysis; oversee timing, budget, quality, and engineering of prototype production and material selection; oral and written presentations throughout program innovation cycle; support the integration of innovative products into customer projects, from industrialization and follow through to first months of production; analyze internal combustion engine technology, heat transfer and fluid dynamics, and gather engineering, production, budget, and sales information for use in benchmarking innovation programs; liaise with manufacturing engineering and validate plans for production, engineering processes, prototype tooling, production and tooling pricing, and capital equipment; evaluate designs to ensure highest quality and lowest cost for material selection and process definition (wire mesh, stainless steel tubing, tube manipulation, tooling, equipment, and gauge design) so that critical pricing targets are met; evaluate manufacturing processes of welding lines and exhaust assemblies.

Minimum education requirements: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or foreign equivalent degree. Minimum experience requirements: 1 year’ experience in a research engineering position working with vehicle powertrain systems Special skills required: Must have 1 year’ work experience in each of the following: researching engine powertrain performance for vehicle emissions reduction; applying Design of Experiments methodologies; analyzing internal combustion engine technology, including heat transfer and fluid dynamics; using GT-POWER for simulation of internal combustion engines. Must have 6 months’ work experience applying experimental methods to validate engine system performance. Required skills may be acquired through employment or post-graduate engineering internship and may be acquired concurrently.
