Our North American Seating Division is looking for a Lead Engineer JIT to be based at its Technical Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
 

The Lead Engineering JIT is responsible for supervising the complete seat design and development of Ford JIT projects, and ensures the engineering change coordination between Ford & FAS is managed appropriately. He/she will lead a team of project engineers & design staff, as well WERS and TCe staff to support change control.  He/she is responsible for overseeing and executing the complete development of projects from initial design through production launch serialization, and post launch support for automotive complete seat systems.


The main missions of the role are to:
  • Leads the technical team to create and release 3D CAD models and drawings to meet internal and customer requirements, providing clear and complete direction regarding design concepts, parameters, trade-offs, and evaluating their output. This includes Managing the change control function and interface to the customer.
  • Supports the Engineering budget process and ensures its application and adherence
  • Oversees, recommends and implements all phases of the seat designs project to complete it within budget and to meet customer determined project milestone dates.
  • Ensures that the product designs proposed meets customer requirements through direct consultation with customer technical personnel
  • Ensures that the product designs proposed by the design team are feasible and economical to produce in the manufacturing facilities and processes available.
  • Ensures that the lead engineers, projects engineers, design engineers and designers, meet all the requirements and achieve the highest design quality.
  • Contributes to manufacturing performance and customer service by assisting in the resolution of production or quality issues associated with the design.
  • Keeps the team informed on all relevant information; he/she will assist in supporting all human resources needs of their team including their professional development, annual performance reviews and participation in recruitment as needed
  • Conducts performance reviews of each member of the design team and provides appropriate recommendations to the Director of Engineering.
  • Recommends and executes organizational changes in order to maintain appropriate staffing and staff performance levels for the project.
  • Coordinates work and information between all functions involved in the project structures, mechanisms, foam, trim and accessories, to ensure efficient integration into complete seats
  • Other duties and special projects assigned.


The ideal candidate will have:
 
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or applicable work experience
  • Minimum 10 years experience in automotive engineering field.
  • Extensive track record in managing product design team from sourcing through product launch.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to effectively lead teams through problem resolution.
  • Previous experience in launching major systems (or at least key components) into production preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive specific engineering process (example: design to cost, DFMA, DFA/DFM, 8-D, 5-Phase, etc…)
  • Strong background in complete seat design and development preferred.
