Position Description


Title          : Senior Engineer - FEA / Durability


Reports to  : Assistant Manager – FEA




Design and development of exhaust systems, parts and subassemblies from FEA and durability perspective. Perform Finite Element Analyses using commercially available FEA applications. Performing FEA simulations steady state, dynamic, thermal,  thermal fatigue and forced response analyses to verify the design of components, sub-systems and complete exhaust systems. The potential FEA applications include steady state, dynamic, thermal, thermal fatigue and forced response analyses to verify the design of components, sub-systems and complete exhaust systems


Qualification: B.E or M.Tech in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering



  • At least 3 years of experience Finite Element Analysis using Abaqus, Taitherm & HyperWorks
  • 3+ years of experience in providing design concepts, developing methodologies, standards, and writing procedures. Experience in simulation and methodological layout of exhaust system components considering dynamic and durability requirements
    Principal Accountability:
  • Analysis of design concepts for Structural and Thermal specification as per FCM /customer specification or measurement data for design validation
  • Autonomous recommendations based on FEA and thermal results to program team
  • Structural and dynamic simulations e.g. stress analysis, model analysis, frequency response analysis, fatigue life predictions and/ or thermal management simulations e.g. heat transfer & thermal fatigue simulations etc. Provide design solutions and recommendations independently
  • Technical report preparation and presentation to global stakeholders
  • Support and / or active participation in internal & external professional networks in FCM (incl. documentation)
  • Identify and share the lessons learned and best practices
  • Support internal CAE team level trainings
  • Maintain, track quality & on time delivery metrics for all work requests
  • Quality review of the simulations executed by FE Analysts, GETs and PGETs
  • Support standardization, harmonization and documentation of calculation methodologies, including working procedures
  • Supporting COE/COA for development and / or introduction of new calculation methods and workflows in the field of FEA / Thermal analysis of product development according to PMS / IPMS
  • Implementation / Coordination of basic research projects for the expansion of the company's know-how in the field of FEA and product innovation according to PMS / IPMS
  • If necessary, participate in the optimization of IT hardware structures and simulation processes / IT environment as well as their implementation
  • Market investigation concerning products, tools and technologies
  • Preparation of publications and assistance to engineering students
    Technical know-how:
  • Theorotical knowledge of FEA, Vibration, Materials, Strength of Materials                                                                            
  • Theory knowledge in Fatigue failures (LCF & HCF)
  • Failure theories and its influence on durability failures.
  • Basic skills in design,  project / program management.
  • Testing equipment, setup and analysis    
  • Manufacturing Processes : studies bending, canning, muffler manufacturing, stamping, welding
  • Mandatory: FEA / Durability software (Abaqus, Optistruct, Taitherm)                                                                                    
  • Mandatory: FEA pre/post processing (HyperWorks, Abaqus Viewer)
  • MS-office & Unix / Linux applications
  • Good to have: Linux Script writing
  • Good to have: Programming languages (Python, Java)
