We’re hiring a Prototype Welding Technician. Our Clean Mobility Division is looking for a Prototype Welding Technician for its research and development center in Columbus, IN.

 

You’ll work on challenges that matter.

This job will require you to:

  • Read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, calibration records, blueprints and various related data, as well as prepare reports and documentation.
  • Effectively communicate with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, as well as interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Operate GTAW/GMAW welding apparatus to join parts that meet customer/internal weld specifications.
  • Have a deep understanding of internal and customer weld standards and requirements.
  • Understand GTAW/GMAW welder capabilities such that proper equipment is used based on welding requirements for each job.
  • Utilize precision measurement equipment, including micrometers, scales, calipers, and levels to ensure components meet specifications.
  • Participate in GAP team – provide input on HSE issues/process improvements/problem solving. Assist other prototype personnel with problem solving activities.
  • Ability to think critically to solve problems that have not yet happened (What can go wrong today?)
  • Work with the Supervisor and Gap Leader to implement/maintain a safe work environment, 5S and FES principles as well as improve efficiency/throughput.
  • Know, understand, follow, and instruct others on all applicable TS16949, ISO14001 and internal Faurecia policies and procedures.
  • Perform weld analysis via cut & etch processes and/or facilitation of such processes or related through the Materials Lab. 

 

 

The ideal candidate.

To succeed in this position, you will ideally have:

  • 2+ years of related experience 
  • Welding per RCO-I-DSS-1001 (Mig/Tig Weld Certification) & FSE-S-PSE-0005 (FECT Welding Standard).
  • Note that CTC Prototype exceeds the standard by performing certifications bi-annually.
  • Forklift license/certification as required by specific job function and/or area.
  • Additional to have: Advanced GD&T training & certificate.
  • TRAVEL: Travel for giving and receiving training as well as business related support is occasionally required.
  • PROTECTIVE CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:  Requires the use of safety glasses, steel toe safety boots, Cut Sleeves & Cut gloves (BOTH per current Faurecia HSE requirements) when handling parts and hearing protection when in designated areas.  Additional PPE may be required as instructed by Faurecia HSE and on the Hazardous Material Identification System (HMIS) chart for specific activities.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Lift assist devices and/or the assistance of another technician are required for anything above 25 pounds.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, the risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is that found in a “normal” manufacturing environment; noise levels in the prototype shop are usually moderate, occasionally loud and hearing protection is required where posted.
