Controls Engineer Level 2

Duties include:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot software programs for PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, ProfiNet, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Maintain and configure Rockwell AssetCenter, FactoryTalk SE/ME, RSLogix, SLC500 and other HMI visual interfaces, and appropriate licenses
  • Act as first level escalation support for the maintenance teams. Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors or headquarters for support to restore equipment operation.
  • Monitor metrics and partner with facilities/operations for system performance issues related to all aspects of the plant.
  • Apply subject matter expertise in electro-mechanical systems to maximize availability of production assembly processes.
  • Perform regularly scheduled assessments to validate efficient system performance, including PMI of controls system enclosures, relays and other electrical facets critical to manufacturing operations
  • Partner with equipment vendors and parts suppliers to plan and coordinate new technology installations as needed.
  • Act as the PLC Automation technical consultant for capital projects in the plant.
  • Utilize support resources for guidance and assistance, and provide assistance to peers, as needed.
  • Communicate technical issues and project timelines with leadership, operations and the maintenance team. Explain production impacts and work closely with operations and engineering to ensure a thorough understanding of impact to systems.
  • Effectively work with management and operations in coordinating change control for new implementations, enhancements, and hot-fixes.
  • Train, develop and mentor junior PLC Controls Technicians on systems concepts as related to PLC systems in the production facility.
  • Work extensively with manufacturing and process engineers to understand, develop and deliver automation improvements and/or Control Plan improvements to ensure product quality
  • Establish PLC control automations to work in conjunction with the plant’s Error-Proofing and Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
  • Participate in operational meetings and workshops with plant stake-holders on defining new product launches, continuous improvement and engineering changes
  • Utilize Windows and Open Source operating systems/software as related to controls and day-to-day business dealings

 

Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Associates degree in electronic technology or related field or 5 years equivalent experience.
  • Ability to identify, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify Allen Bradley RS LOGIX 5000, SLC500 PLC's and PLC components.
  • Ability to identify, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify Siemens S7, TIA Portal, Symatic, and WinCC components.
  • Ability to identify, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify Robotics system components and controls.
  • Ability to identify, maintain, troubleshoot, modify and program HMI components.
  • Ability to identify, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify control network configuration.
  • Ability to identify, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify camera-based Vision Systems
  • Ability to identify, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify Motor Controls including motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), DC drives, and standard electrical components.
  • Industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
  • Understand concepts and messaging protocols within Allen-Bradley and Siemens WinCC.
  • Ability to execute project tasks assigned.
  • Reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and modify drawings both mechanical and electrical.
  • Ability to identify, maintain, and utilize SCADA and barcode scanning configuration.
  • Ability to train others as needed.
  • Ability to access all levels and areas of the facility.
  • Ability to interpret and understand policies and procedures as related to best practices in safety.
  • Must be available to work various shifts, weekends and holidays as required per business needs and projects

Job Type: Full-time Salary

 

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday (Dayshift)
  • Off-hours or extended hours as required by business and production support needs
  • Weekend or holiday work may be required per business needs for special project or production support

 

Experience:

  • PLC Programming: 3 years (Required)
  • Manufacturing experience in Automotive a plus
