Your mission, roles and responsibilities
Overall Responsibilities and Duties
Faurecia Clarion Electronics (FCE) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Pune to lead the design, validation, and industrialization of automotive electronic products such as Infotainment Systems, Digital Clusters, Displays, Cockpit Domain Controllers, and Camera/Driver Monitoring Systems. The role converts customer requirements into robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective mechanical solutions while ensuring compliance from RFQ through SOP and series production.
Main Mission and Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Design & Development
- Own end-to-end mechanical design, drawings, BOMs, and product architecture.
- Define packaging, thermal, structural, fastening, sealing, and assembly concepts.
- Manage design reviews, releases, engineering changes, and technical discussions.
2. Vehicle Integration & Packaging
- Define product packaging, mounting strategies, interfaces, and gap & flush requirements.
- Coordinate with electronics, display, optical, thermal, and industrial design teams.
3. Materials & Manufacturing
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes.
- Design parts for molding, die casting, sheet metal, machining, and assembly.
- Ensure manufacturability, durability, and compliance requirements.
4. Display & Optical Integration
- Integrate displays, touch panels, cover lenses, and decorative components.
- Ensure alignment, cosmetic quality, optical performance, and Class-A surfaces.
5. Thermal, Structural & Environmental Design
- Develop thermal management solutions and support simulation activities.
- Ensure robustness against vibration, shock, temperature, humidity, dust, and water exposure.
6. GD&T & Dimensional Control
- Apply GD&T standards and perform tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Define critical characteristics and resolve dimensional issues.
7. Quality & Compliance
- Support DFMEA, DFM/DFA, risk assessments, and design reviews.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, customer, and regulatory requirements.
8. Validation & Problem Solving
- Support prototyping, DV/PV validation, and test reviews.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions using structured methodologies.
9. Supplier & Industrialization Support
- Support supplier selection, tooling reviews, PPAP, line trials, and production launch.
- Coordinate engineering changes with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
10. RFQ & Cost Optimization
- Support RFQs, feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost estimations.
- Drive VAVE, weight reduction, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and maintain engineering best practices.
This version is typically 40-50% shorter while retaining all key responsibilities expected in a senior automotive Mechanical Engineer JD.
Your profile and competencies to succeed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automobile Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- 7-10 years in automotive mechanical product development, preferably cockpit electronics.
- 5+ years leading mechanical design, packaging, and product release activities.
- Experience with automotive components, OEM interaction, suppliers, tooling, and manufacturing.
- Exposure to the full product lifecycle: RFQ, design, validation, tooling, industrialization, SOP, and production support.
Mandatory Technical Competencies
Mechanical Design
- 3D/2D design, GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, DFMEA.
- Plastic, sheet-metal, die-cast, machined, rubber, adhesive, and thermal component design.
- Fastening, sealing, venting, and serviceability concepts.
Automotive Electronics Integration
- Packaging of PCB, connectors, harnesses, displays, cameras, sensors, and antennas.
- Thermal management, EMI shielding, vehicle integration, gap & flush management.
- Design for vibration, durability, environmental, and IP requirements.
Engineering Tools
- CATIA V5/V6 (Part, Assembly, Surface, Sheet Metal, Drawings).
- Teamcenter/ENOVIA/Windchill or equivalent PLM tools.
- Tolerance analysis tools, simulation result interpretation, JIRA, and Confluence.
Process & Quality
- APQP, DFMEA, DFM/DFA/DFT, design reviews, and drawing release.
- Prototype development, DV/PV, PPAP, change management, and production support.
- Supplier reviews, tooling development, and manufacturing problem-solving.
Nice to Have
- Display integration, optical bonding, CMS/DMS products.
- Thermal management development.
- VAVE, lightweighting, localization, and sustainable materials.
- Simulation methods and Design of Experiments (DoE).
