Our Group Intellectual Property organization is looking for a Patent Engineer (M/F) to develop the Intellectual Property staff in Shanghai up to four people in 2020. The global IP team comprises about 60 people localized in France, Germany, United-States, India, Japan and China including Patent Attorneys qualified before many Patent Offices. The IP staff of Shanghai support the strong development of Faurecia in China, in particular with the new Business Group Faurecia Clarion Electronics and its R&D centers in Xiamen, Foshan and Nanchang in addition to the Shanghai area.


As a Patent Engineer she/he must have knowledge in Patent Laws combined with an engineer degree in Electronics and/or Information Technologies. She/he has to help inventors to define their inventions, to assess the patentability of the Invention Disclosure Forms (IDF), to ensure the quality of patent first filing, as well to prepare extension decisions with the inputs from the technical experts and marketing specialists through the world. The Patent Engineer has also to establish the cooperation with external patent attorneys and to check the quality of their work. She/he will be involved into patent infringement analysis, as well in IP dispute matters.


The main missions of the role are as follows:

  • Assist our inventors to identify and complete Invention Disclosure Forms (IDF) which implies visits in our Chinese R&D centers;
  • Assess the patentability of the IDF;
  • Ensure the cooperation with external Patent Attorneys and the quality of our patent filing;
  • Prepare the patent filing/extension decisions for Patent Committees; and
  • in cooperation with internal and external Patent Analysts, manage patent search works;
  • Prepare Patent Clearance and Freedom To Operate analysis.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • An Engineer Degree or Master's degree in Electronics and/or Information Technologies;
  • Knowledge in patent laws and procedures, notably the Chinese, European and US patent offices,
  • The candidate should have experience in patent matters in the Electronic and/or IT fields, or at least have a University degree at Intellectual Property;
  • Knowledge in patent searching would be an advantage;
  • Fluent English is mandatory;
  • Team player with good communication skills, able to work in a multicultural environment.
