Your mission, roles and responsibilities
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, and Program Launch activities to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective operations. The role ensures production meets customer requirements, drives continuous improvement, maintains equipment and process performance, and delivers successful new program launches and SOP. The position leads Engineering and Maintenance teams and collaborates closely with Operations, Quality, Program Management, Finance, Supply Chain, and other plant and divisional functions.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Engineering & Series Production
- Lead Manufacturing Engineering activities to deliver robust, efficient, and cost-effective processes.
- Ensure production meets Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Performance requirements.
- Lead engineering changes, capacity planning, problem solving, and continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Support plant and Division industrial strategy and manufacturing technology development.
Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Lead Maintenance to maximize equipment availability, reliability, and performance.
- Implement preventive/predictive maintenance and equipment reliability strategies.
- Monitor downtime and maintenance KPIs and drive improvement actions.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Production and manage external contractors and technical suppliers.
- Support equipment upgrades, modifications, and reliability improvements.
Program Launch & Plant Readiness
- Lead Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance activities for new program launches and SOP readiness.
- Define manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, automation, and capacity requirements.
- Provide manufacturing input to RFQs, including feasibility, capacity, investment, and cost.
- Participate in program/industrial gate reviews and validate manufacturing readiness.
- Ensure successful process and equipment start-up, including initial samples, Run@Rate, work instructions, and SOP.
- Coordinate launch activities across Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, and Program teams; identify and resolve launch risks, including PLTL activities.
Budget, CAPEX & Suppliers
- Develop and manage Engineering and Maintenance budgets and capital requirements.
- Ensure investments and facilities meet technical and manufacturing standards.
- Manage external engineering firms, contractors, equipment suppliers, and technical resources.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure projects are delivered to scope, cost, and timing.
People Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, develop, and assess Engineering and Maintenance team members.
- Establish objectives, development plans, and succession plans to build technical capability.
- Coordinate technical training and support knowledge sharing through internal and external expertise networks.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Performance, HSE & Reporting
- Monitor and report Engineering, Maintenance, and Launch KPIs and drive corrective actions.
- Communicate program readiness, risks, and performance to plant and program leadership.
- Ensure engineering and maintenance activities comply with applicable HSE, safety, and environmental requirements, including ISO 14001 commitments.
Your profile and competencies to succeed
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; master’s degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 5+ years of manufacturing experience, including experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
• 3+ years of leadership/management experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, and/or Program Launch.
• Proven experience supporting new program launches and SOP activities.
• Experience with CAPEX, budgeting, costing, and investment management.
• Experience working with cross-functional and international teams.
• Automotive or high-volume manufacturing experience preferred.
• Experience with a Controls, Robotics, Welding Processes, and Fixtures.
