Mexico Legal Councel

We are looking for a Mexico Legal Councel to be based in our Puebla HQ site.

ROLE PURPOSE
The Legal Councel – Mexico leads the legal and compliance function for the operations in Mexico, providing trusted legal counsel to local management, ensuring adherence to Mexican law and company policies, and deploying the company compliance program locally. The role protects the company’s license to operate and enables sustainable business growth, working in close partnership with Company Legal and Compliance and with local leadership.
KEY MISSIONS — LEGAL
–    Provide pragmatic legal advice and support to Mexico management and operations across corporate, commercial, labor, regulatory, and litigation matters.
–    Draft, review, and negotiate contracts (customer, supplier, commercial, services, and real estate / leases).
–    Manage litigation, disputes, and claims, and select and oversee external counsel and legal spend.
–    Ensure corporate governance and secretarial administration of the Mexican legal entities.
–    Advise on employment and labor-law matters (e.g. the Federal Labor Law) in coordination with HR and Industrial Relations.
–    Ensure compliance with Mexican regulatory requirements (corporate, commercial, environmental, customs / trade, and data protection under the LFPDPPP).
–    Provide legal support to M&A, restructuring, real estate, and strategic projects in Mexico.
–    Manage and mitigate legal risk, and escalate significant matters to Company Legal / the General Counsel.
–    Protect the company intellectual property and confidential information locally.
KEY MISSIONS — COMPLIANCE
–    Deploy and embed the company compliance program in Mexico, including the Code of Conduct and enterprise policies.
–    Conduct the local compliance risk assessment and define the annual plan for training, monitoring, and assurance.
–    Deliver localized training and awareness, tracking completion and measuring effectiveness and culture.
–    Enforce controls in high-risk areas: anti-bribery / anti-corruption (including the Mexican anti-corruption framework), competition / antitrust (COFECE), trade controls / sanctions, and conflicts of interest.
–    Lead Speak-Up / whistleblowing case management and investigations locally, ensuring independence, non-retaliation, and consistent remediation.
–    Govern third-party due diligence for suppliers, agents, and distributors operating in Mexico.
–    Conduct risk-based monitoring, testing, and site visits across Mexican plants and operations.
–    Manage regulatory engagement with Mexican authorities and lead responses to inquiries and examinations.
–    Provide compliance reporting and metrics to Company Compliance and local leadership.
–    Champion an ethical culture and Speak-Up mindset across all levels in Mexico.
EXPERIENCE
12+ years of relevant experience in legal and / or compliance roles, including in-house experience in a multinational (ideally automotive or manufacturing) and proven leadership of legal and compliance matters in Mexico.
EDUCATION
Law degree (Licenciatura en Derecho) with admission to practice in Mexico. An LLM / Master’s degree or a compliance certification (e.g. CCEP) is appreciated.
KEY COMPETENCIES
–    Strong expertise in Mexican corporate, commercial, and labor law.
–    Solid command of compliance program design and high-risk areas (anti-corruption, antitrust, trade controls).
–    Proven experience leading investigations with independence and integrity.
–    Excellent judgment and the ability to give pragmatic, risk-based advice.
–    Strong stakeholder management with local leadership and Group functions.
–    Fully bilingual in Spanish and English.
