Job Description: Sr./Adv Engineer – Benchmarking & Engineering Insights
Location: Bhosari, Pune
Department: Engineering Quality
Reporting To: Manager – Engineering Quality

Job Purpose
To lead and execute benchmarking activities across global and local automotive platforms, providing strategic insights into product design, performance, cost, and innovation. The role involves deep analysis of competitor products, teardown studies, and synthesis of engineering data to support design robustness, innovation, and cost competitiveness. The Benchmark Engineer will also be responsible for developing and maintaining digital dashboards and repositories to support engineering decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
•    Lead and manage benchmarking projects including competitor product teardown, feature comparison, and cost analysis.
•    Analyze competitor technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes to identify trends and opportunities.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, purchasing, manufacturing) to translate benchmarking insights into actionable engineering improvements.
•    Develop and maintain benchmarking databases and digital libraries for easy access and reference.
•    Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing benchmarking findings, including technical, cost, and innovation aspects.
•    Support engineering teams with data-driven recommendations during concept and development phases.
•    Ensure benchmarking activities align with internal standards, confidentiality protocols, and customer expectations.
•    Conduct periodic reviews and updates of benchmark data to maintain relevance and accuracy.
•    Utilize Power BI and other visualization tools to create dashboards tracking benchmarking KPIs and trends.
•    Maintain SharePoint site for benchmarking documentation and ensure data integrity and accessibility.
•    Participate in global benchmarking forums and contribute to knowledge sharing across regions.
•    Identify gaps in product performance or cost competitiveness and propose improvement strategies.
•    Act as a reference point for benchmarking methodology, tools, and best practices.
•    Train and mentor junior engineers in benchmarking techniques and analysis.
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automobile.
Certification in Competitive Analysis, Cost Engineering, or Product Teardown is a plus.
Experience
•    Minimum 6–8 years of experience in product development, benchmarking, or cost engineering within the automotive industry.
•    Hands-on experience with teardown analysis, competitor product evaluation, and technical reporting.
•    Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization tools.
•    Familiarity with CAD tools and PLM systems is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
•    Strong analytical and investigative skills with attention to detail.
•    Deep understanding of automotive systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
•    Proficiency in Power BI, Excel, and SharePoint for data analysis and reporting.
•    Excellent communication and presentation skills in a global context.
•    Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional benchmarking initiatives.
•    Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
•    Ability to work autonomously with cross-cultural teams.
Preferred Attributes
•    Experience in Tier 1 automotive supplier environment.
•    Exposure to global benchmarking practices and innovation tracking.
•    Ability to drive strategic insights from technical data and market trends.
•    Capability to influence engineering decisions through benchmarking intelligence.
